Whether you are a local who likes to sit and read the paper somewhere relaxing before work, a tourist who enjoys a mid-morning latte, or a business traveler trying to get some work done, we have the perfect coffee shop for you. Sip, or gulp, away.

Charleston Coffee Shops

Brown’s Court Bakery

Built in the 1800’s, this building is the last remaining in a group of houses referred to as “Browns Court.” The inside is simple and light with a small upstairs area perfect for working or reading a good book. If you are in need of coffee and quiet this is the place to go. We recommend the cinnamon roll or a loaf of Challah bread to snack on.

Kudu

Boasting the typical coffee fare in addition to delicious sandwiches and an extensive craft beer program, Kudu truly has everything you could want in a coffee shop. This is a great spot to stop if you are traveling for pleasure, not to mention there is an outdoor patio where live music is played regularly. Kudu can get crowded in the early evenings, but we think it’s worth it.

Noise level: medium-high

Black Tap

This is your destination for the perfect latte with unique flavors to choose from like lavender, brown sugar, and honey. This space is very industrial, almost colorless, and is definitely the coffee shop that has the biggest “cool factor.” If there’s a celebrity to spot in Charleston, this is where you will most likely find them.

City Lights Coffee

Quaint, warm, inviting and delicious. These are all the words that come to mind when we think of City Lights Coffee. Conveniently located right off of King Street, and steps away from the bustling market, this coffee shop is one of the best to stop in for a drink or even a treat to go since seating is limited.

The Daily

A concept by the owners of a Charleston favorite, Butcher and Bee, this breakfast and coffee spot has a unique assortment of dishes. Our personal favorites are the breakfast pita and the Aztec Cacao smoothie. For a drink, we recommend the Tahini Mocha or iced almond milk latte. Don’t forget to grab some of their lunches to-go.

Tricera Coffee

If a vacation morning is not complete without waffles, then this is your place. You can order them plain with powdered sugar or if you’re feeling adventurous get them topped with Prosciutto and Bourbon. We like both. This is a fairly small coffee shop so you keep that in mind.

Noise level: medium

Revelator

This is the spot to get some reading in. It has a very relaxed and quiet atmosphere but no WiFi. If you want to finish that novel you’ve been saying you would read for 2 years, or just have a moment of quiet while sipping an Americano, this is the spot for you.

WiFi: no

Noise level: low

The Harbinger

One of the newest additions to the coffee shop scene is the Harbinger. We love their health-conscious menu and the few sweet treats offered. This space is welcoming and a great spot to get finish up that essay you’ve been putting off or take the perfect Instagram (or both).

Noise level: medium

Bad Wolf

Originally started in Chicago, this coffee shop is known for its gourmet pastries in the morning and cocktails served at night. Bad Wolf is a great place to catch up with friends or relax after the workday.

Noise level: Medium (earlier in the day tends to be quieter)
