Charleston is enjoying one last long and festive weekend in 2012. Here’s a quick rundown of our favorite ways to spend the final moments of a wonderful year and the first day of a new one.
Friday, December 28th – Wine, Dinner and Dessert at Circa 1886
Sick of leftovers or need a romantic night away from the kids/family? Reserve a table at Circa 1886 or grab a spot at the bar for Specialty Holiday Cocktails. Chef Marc Collins just debuted a new menu of winter items, and recreated his signature Antelope dish (a noted favorite by Travel+Leisure Magazine and The Wall Street Journal) for the new season. If you miss out tonight, make a 3 for $40 January Restaurant Week reservation.
Saturday, December 29th -Gibbes Museum of Art “Sound and Vision” Exhibit
Take the family, boyfriend, girlfriend, out-of-towners, mother-in-laws, etc. to visit the last Saturday of the Gibbes Museum traveling “Sound and Vision” exhibit: an absolute must-see! It’s extremely economical and a perfect way to spend what, according to the weathermen, will be a dreary day. The amazing photo display features “iconic leaders of rock and roll, blues, and hip-hop—distinctly American forms of music with Southern roots—in images taken over the past five decades… from Elvis to Madonna, The Beatles to Michael Jackson.”
Sunday, December 30th – the last of the James Island Festival of Lights
This is one of the last evenings of James Island County Park’s famously festive light display. Three miles, a million lights, s’mores, hot chocolate: sign us up. Get more details here.
Monday, December 31st- New Year’s Eve – Spend a evening on King Street
Take advantage of downtown Charleston’s walkability. Book a night at our inn on King Street, park the car and let it be your last worry on New Years Eve. Enjoy a room at the Kings Courtyard Inn or Fulton Lane Inn, where rates start at $249 and include afternoon wine + cheese, evening cordials, breakfast, and if you’re up to it- access to a downtown health club. Plan a festive, celebratory dinner or gallivant on King and East Bay Street for a night of new year’s revelry. Call 800-845-6119 (Kings Courtyard Inn) or 800-720-2688 (Fulton Lane Inn) for a last-minute deal!
Tuesday, January 1st- New Year’s Day – Walkin’ South of Broad
Start off the new year with a dose of nature’s best medicine: fresh air and a salty breeze. Stroll down to The Battery and White Point Gardens and overlook the Ashley River. Take in the one last look at the famous homes South of Broad, their beautiful wreaths and holiday decorations only days away from being boxed up for next December. Find these hidden alleys, stumble upon Colonial Lake and spy the Wentworth Mansion’s cupola. There’s no better place to clear your mind for a fresh start in 2013.
