December days in Charleston have been merry, bright and so far- very mild. The temperature might be in the mid-70’s, but there are still a flurry of holiday festivities on the calendar. Here are a few family-friendly holiday events happening this week, plus a few festive photos straight from the Charming Inns Instagram. (Follow along @charminginns)
Charming Inns’ Progressive Dinner (Penelope’s Pick)- Seats available each night this week
Remember our traveling pineapple friend, Penelope? She’s back in Charleston for the holidays and hand-selected her favorite Charleston event this week: Charming Inns’ Progressive Dinner! This holiday dining tradition is in its 27th year and promises a truly magical evening downtown. Progressive diners start off with hors d’ oeuvres at the Kings Courtyard Inn (Mmm, Butterscotch Eggnog! Rabbit Sausage!) then set off by horse and carriage to Circa 1886 for a three-course dinner. With one final stop for dessert and coffee at the John Rutledge House Inn, be dazzled by the inn’s 12-foot Christmas tree. A seat at Progressive Dinner is $90 per person. See the full menu here and reserve a spot by calling 843-853-7828.
Bulldog Tours’ Holiday Strolls – Available every day by reservation only.
Since it is in fact, so lovely outside, why not set off into the city for a holiday-themed walking tour? All month long, our friends at Bulldog Tours will offer festive strolls downtown that set off just steps from our inns. You’ll peek inside St. Michaels Church, see historic highlights and walk through private neighborhoods dressed in their holiday finery. Get the inside scoop on Charleston’s favorite holiday traditions, rich history and colorful past. Tours start at $3-10 for children and adults are $20. Get more information here.
King Street Shop Walk – Friday, December 7th – starting at 5:00 pm
Knock out some of that King Street holiday shopping – for a good cause. During Shop Walk, King Street boutiques and retailers keep their doors open after hours, offer special shopping deals and serve goodies like cupcakes and champagne. The evening benefits the Charleston Center for Women. Purchase a passport for $15 to join in on the fun.
Saturday + Sunday, December 8-9th – Drayton Hall’s Annual Christmas Spirituals Concert
Take the scenic drive out to Drayton Hall plantation for their Annual Spirituals Concert. Here The Magnolia Singers share an awe-worthy acapella performance of African-American spiritual music- the same music that could have been heard centuries ago in the surrounding fields and praise houses. After the concert, enjoy some refreshments and take an informal tour of the beautiful Drayton Hall. Reservations are required. Tickets are still only $35 for adults. Learn more and claim your spot here.
Each of our inns has special weekday and weekend rates to make your season even more merry. King Street’s Fulton Lane Inn and Kings Courtyard Inn rates start at just $149/night. You can also get a dose of history and hospitality at the John Rutledge House Inn or stay in the lap of luxury at the beautifully-decorated Wentworth Mansion.
