Long ago, the Wentworth Mansion earned a seal of approval from traveling dogs and their owners (as adorably referenced here). Last week we learned that the domestic goddess herself, Martha Stewart, crowned our luxurious pet-friendly inn one of the 12 Best Pet Hotels in America! Martha is a self-proclaimed dog lover so we are particularly thrilled to be a resource for her followers (and pets) on-the-go. With May being National Pet Month, it only seems fitting to celebrate our new favorite award.
From MarthaStewart.com –
“The pet-designated rooms in this elegant Southern mansion all have direct access to the courtyard and lawn, which makes finding green space for a nighttime walk in Charleston significantly easier. Large walk-in showers can accommodate both people and pets, and the hotel’s location near several parks and pet-oriented attractions is unbeatable.”
The Wentworth Mansion is undoubtedly one of the most upscale inns for pet travel in Charleston SC. At 575 square feet, our Garden Rooms are perfect for dogs. There’s more than enough room to play or relax. Each Garden Room has a door that opens into the yard, making midnight bathroom breaks and strolls through the neighborhood easy.
As Ms. Stewart notes, numerous dog-friendly parks and restaurants are right around the corner from the Wentworth Mansion. Some of the best summertime spots being:
White Point Gardens at the Battery: Just keep walking towards the water and you’ll stumble on this iconic park. Its breezy, shaded paths lined are with live oak trees. Dolphins splash in the river right alongside the Battery wall. This is perhaps the most beautiful dog park in Charleston – just be sure to keep your pup on a leash here. Bring a picnic and stay awhile.
Kudu Coffee Shop on Vanderhorst Street: On a cool summer day, the walk to Kudu is perfect. There’s lots to see and sniff on the half-mile walk, and once you arrive, both you and your dog can bask in the courtyard. Refresh with an iced latte and sweet treat while your pup laps up water and stretches out in the sun.
39 Rue de Jean on John Street: Here, you’ll feel French and fantastic. This lovely restaurant has a secluded outdoor dining area. Settle in for mussels, fries and wine while your pup relaxes in the shade.
