As she sat by her roaring fireplace at the Ojai Valley Inn and Spa in California, our traveling friend Penelope the Pineapple was reminded of Charleston. Though she was clear across the country, her accommodations at this historic hotel were reminiscent of her cozy room at the Wentworth Mansion. Its charm, ambiance and beauty, so very similar to that of the Mansion, a stop on her five-week Charleston vacation itinerary earlier this fall.
After lounging in her room, Penelope went out to explore the rest of the resort and ran across who else- but Linn Lesesne and Rick Widman! The two were also posted up in Ojai Valley for the Historic Hotel of America Conference, of which their Wentworth Mansion, John Rutledge House and Kings Courtyard Inn are members. Penelope made fast friends with the inn proprietors while in Charleston, and just ran into Rick during his recent journey to London (chronicled here.) Penelope decided to tag along and the trio enjoyed a fun little trip through sunny Southern California. As always, Ms. P was camera ready for one photo-opp after the next. Here’s a few shots from their travels:
Penelope enjoying a lovely fire and hanging with her new friend, the doorman of Ojai Valley Inn and Spa. Penelope piqued an interest in history while in Charleston, so she really loved the storied past of her California accommodations. Ojai Valley was built in 1923 and before its debut as a 308-room resort, served as a country club, military training center, Navy R&R facility and Old Hollywood era movie backdrop.
Nostalgic about her Charleston wine and dining experience at Circa 1886 Restaurant, Penelope convinced Linn and Rick to check out California wine country.
Stop #1 was Stolpman Winery in Lompoc, CA. Penelope of course made a new friend, Chris McIntyre and tried some of Stolpman’s fantastic and famous Syrah.
Stop #2 was Au Bon Climat Winery in beautiful Santa Barbara. Here, Penelope got a little lost in the vineyards. Can you spot her?
After all the California excitement, Penelope decided to accompany Linn + Rick back to Charleston for the holiday season. She’ll be in the Holy City for the next few weeks, presenting her favorite holiday events around town. Stay plugged into our Facebook page for Penelope’s Picks: the December Edition.
