Planning Your SEWE Weekend

As a pet-friendly hotel, we are particularly fond of the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition – better known as SEWE. The weekend of February 15-17 welcomes thousands of outdoor enthusiasts and fellow animal lovers to Charleston. The center of SEWE activity, Marion Square, is in perfect walking distance from our front door on Broad Street- you’ll arrive at the park in just 15-minutes.

Dog Friendly John Rutledge House Inn

The John Rutledge House Inn has extended a special SEWE discounted rate for your weekend getaway. Spend your Friday and Saturday evening with us! Rooms start at just $299 a night (to book, call us 800-476-9741 and ask for the SEWE rate.) Included in your stay – a hot breakfast to jump start a day of exploring downtown and a leisurely afternoon tea to return to afterwards. These – are just a few amenities. The rest are even more of a treat.

SEWE isn’t the only thing happening in town, but so many events on the peninsula are anchored around the festivities. Here are a few of our favorite SEWE happenings (some for you and your dog):

A winter rite of passage in Charleston: a good ol’ fashioned oyster roast. On the evening of Friday the 15th, crack open a few oysters and beers at the Ducks Unlimited Oyster Roast at the Visitor’s Center Bush Shed. Trust us, it’s a great spot for a party.

On Saturday, bring your dog to Marion Square and stop by the Garden & Gun tent. Here you can enter your good lookin’ dog into the magazine’s Good Dog Photo Contest. Here are the winners from last year. They couldn’t be any more adorable.

Dock Dog at SEWE

As an inn that loves dogs as much as we do, we’re especially enamored with one of Saturday’s headlining festivities. The Dock Dog Competition at the riverfront Brittlebank Park downtown. If you plan on bringing Fido with you on your Charleston getaway, let him tag along to this (very) dog-friendly event. He can compete our size up the competition for next year.

Can’t make it to Charleston for SEWE? We’d love to host you – and your dog – for a Charleston getaway this winter. Read all about a dog’s dream trip to the John Rutledge House and keep up with our special rates and packages to start planning.
