Family Circle Cup (March 30-April 7, 2013)
In 2001, the Family Circle Cup tennis tournament found a home on Daniel Island. Every year since, this island town, just 15 miles from downtown Charleston, pulls out all the stops to celebrate women in tennis. From March 30th-April 7th, you can grab a seat at the Billie Jean Court for star-studded tennis matches, featuring the likes of Venus and Sarena Williams. Complimenting the excitement of the matches is a full schedule of events – both on and off the court. For the kids, there’s things like Easter Egg Hunts and jump castles, for adults, there’s live music and drink specials. New to the calendar this year, is the ‘Eleven By Venus’ Exhibition on Monday, April 1st from 4:30pm – 6pm. Venus Williams and Ariana Rodianova will each “Captain” a team of eight local women to play on the Althea Gibson Court at the Family Circle Stadium. All participants will be decked out in Venus William’s clothing line Eleven.
Also new this year is “Pink Out for the Cure” on Thursday, April 4th. Dress in pink and $1 of your admission will go to the Susan G. Komen Foundation of the Lowcountry. Organizers expect the whole stadium to transform into a PINK OUT, where everything from umpire uniform to the ball kids’ uniforms will be in pink.
