Welcome John Martindale!

John-Martindale Circa 1886 is pleased to welcome John Martindale as our Beverage Director. John joins us with a passion for hospitality and wealth of experience in the industry. John is a Certified Sommelier, who first fell in love with wine while participating in blind tastings throughout Charleston with the top sommeliers in the area.   John enjoys his role at Circa 1886 because it offers a creative outlet as a bartender and sommelier. He believes the key to crafting the perfect dining experience is connecting with patrons on an educational level.  Teaching a guest about a varietal of wine or cooking method they've never been exposed to creates a highly memorable experience, one that often falls by the wayside in the rising tide of casual dining. Tasting the 2009 Shafer Hillside Select was a turning point for John in his educational journey through wine. This complex, full-bodied wine from Napa Valley was one of several varietals that transformed his perspective on wine.   John recently released a new cocktail menu offering drinks that embrace Charleston's mild climate and local ingredients. Many of the cocktails on the menu feature herbs from the garden at Circa 1886. One of the most popular additions, the Mansion Mule, features basil from our garden. The Manhattan, recently added to the menu, is a twist on the classic and features Newtonian Bitters which are produced right here in Charleston.   There has never been a more perfect time to join your friends for a glass of wine or a cocktail at the bar at Circa 1886. Stop by from Monday - Saturday to take advantage of our popular cocktail program, 5 for 5 at 5. Enjoy five wines, five hand-crafted cocktails, and all beers for only $5, from 5 until 7 pm.
